Statement:                                                                                                                                     Through comics, printmaking, drawing and collage, Matt Rebholz weaves together cosmic narratives and mythologies that explore the intersections of science fact, science fiction and superstition. These themes have manifested themselves in work concerned with the famous Golem of Jewish folklore, near-Earth objects named for the ancient Egyptian god of chaos and ambitious scientific endeavors such as the Large Hadron Collider and the International Space Station. Recently, Rebholz’s studio practice has shifted to the production and independent publication of a serialized graphic novel. The Astronomer is a Psychedelic Sci-fi/Cosmic Western adventure tale about ancient outerspace bloodgods and the zealots thatworship them.
